A beloved neighborhood bar, known for its intimate atmosphere and legendary character, relocated after 15 years to a larger space just down the street. Despite the move, the goal was to preserve the essence of the original bar – its warmth, familiarity, and iconic charm – while keeping expenses minimal and maximizing the reuse of existing materials. The interior design process was a collaborative effort, with the partners and staff actively involved in shaping the new space. Every element of the old bar was cataloged and thoughtfully integrated: the original floor was dismantled and repurposed to build furniture and counters (aside from the main bar counter, which was custom-built from oak); the original chairs were reupholstered and adapted; the lighting fixtures were relocated and reused; and the display was redesigned to echo the previous one, incorporating familiar elements. A mural that once defined the bar’s identity was reimagined and repainted by the same artist, adapted to the new setting while retaining its original spirit. To maintain the intimate ambiance, the new space was divided into two areas using a dynamic partition and a variety of flexible seating arrangements.
